The inaugural Sri Lanka Premier League will feature 56 foreign cricketers, not one of them is from India and England, after the seven franchises made their choices in a closed-door players’ draft system here. Also Sri Lanka Premier League 2012 announced Schedule of SLPL 2012.
Australia, with 18, provided the most players for the franchises with 13 Pakistani players being the next highest. Not a single English or Indian player figures in the lists.
For the icon player originally Shahid Afridi* was selected for the Negenahira but all the franchises’ was on the stand that all players participated in the entire tournament. But Afridi will not be released from the PCB as there is a series with Australia which is due to commence on the 28th August. In that case Afridi, Hence the Negenahira will be without the icon player. Hence Afridi was excluded by the draft panel team with the agreement of the other franchises; Afridi who was excluded from negenahira was grabbed by Ruhuna. Lasith Malinga remains Ruhuna’s Icon Player.
Misbah-ul-Haq, who is included as he had stepped down from the captaincy of T20 team of Pakistan in May last year and was not picked for the Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka that followed he has been grabbed by Kandurata in the draft. Mohammad Hafeez, who replaced Misbah-Ul-Haq as Pakistan Twenty20 captain, was not included in the list of players from Pakistan picked by Sri Lanka Cricket. West Indies fast bowler Jerome Taylor, who has been absent from Test and ODI’s has been included in the team of Ruhuna.
